Licensing

Over the last 15 years, states throughout the country have adopted new legislation that requires the licensing of elevator contractors, mechanics, inspectors and accessibility installers. New York State has been considering this model for several years and is very close to enacting new legislation that will require the licensing of elevator mechanics, along with eight hours of continuing education per year. The City of New York is considering a similar process to help prevent injuries and accidents that result from improper or insufficient training.
